Prints

Prints - a list of prints published to date

This page contains a record of the prints that Robert Lenkiewicz produced, both during his life, and afterwards (posthumously). The list is believed to be comprehensive.

Some prints will have some minor details or specifications missing which need to be ascertained and added, but otherwise most of the general information is present.

Posthumous prints are mostly listed on the right-hand side of this page, aside from a few exceptions which are on this side of the page (these are usually prints that were released during his lifetime and then also re-released posthumously).

Posthumous prints

The Lenkiewicz Foundation received the copyright for Robert Lenkiewicz's work in 2010. Since then a number of prints, on both paper and canvas, have been produced posthumously by TLF. The list of posthumous prints, below, is not comprehensive due to some new prints still being produced. However, updates are added periodically.

Note: Besides the post-2010 prints, there were also a couple of prints that were produced posthumously immeditely after 2002. These are listed on the left.

Issues regarding canvas prints

The modern-day trend of canvases as 'art prints' divides opinion in the fine art world. Many of the mass-produced canvases have suffered from issues such as fading after only a few years of being made. However, most consumers are oblivious to any downsides, and mass-market consumption of them is currently huge.

As for the Lenkiewicz posthumous prints that are printed on canvas, I am not aware of any issues regarding fading (yet!). Although, there are other issues connected with them:

Drop in value

Sadly, many of the posthumous Lenkiewicz canvases have significantly fallen in value since the first ones were produced and sold just several years ago - with many of the canvases falling by more than half the original price that buyers had paid for them!

This is a concern, as most of the buyers will have unwittingly bought these canvases on the assumpsion that they will be a sound investment - or at the very least, not expect them to fall significantly in value.

Besides this, there are smaller issues too. One being that as these canvases lack any white border around the edge of the picture, it means that Robert's printed signiture has to be placed within the actual picture area, and thus covering a small section of the painting. This type of detail may not concern too many buyers of Lenkiewicz's art, but it is an aesthetic factor that some people in the art world describe as a compromise, and would be reluctant to see them as prints with a 'proper' signature. Especially when it has been simply plonked on top of the picture area, forcing it to become part of the painting - unlike paper prints which have a plain border in which to place a signiture.

Canvas prints may be ideal for the cheaper mass-market prints that are produced in huge numbers and sold on the high street, etc. But as for using them to create specialist limited-edition short-run quantities, requiring the artist's signature for example, traditional paper prints still remain the better option.
